Over the course of the existence of this world, individuals would emerge who would turn the world upside down for Christ. As the precious writer of Hebrews defines, these individuals would:

"Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:"
(Hebrews 11:33-35 KJV)

By the fifteenth century, a group of individuals would emerge that would fall into many of the above categories defined in Hebrews eleven! These men and women referred to themselves as the Moravians.

Here are some of their stories.

Deny yourself and follow Christ

At their inception, the Moravians had a strong belief in our Lord’s command as recorded for us by Luke in his version of our Lord’s Gospel:

"And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
(Luke 9:23 KJV)

This group would do just as our Lord said; even if it meant following Him right out of this life!

Waiting to take our place…

A story was once told of a mission trip and the several individuals who were preparing to embark upon it. In preparation, they would pack up their belongings and send them ahead; not unusual right? Wrong!

Each of these individuals would send their belongings ahead of them, in a coffin!!!

Knowing before hand that their trip would be; a one way trip!

Once when asked, why would you go when you know that you are going to die? The response from the precious saints would be; “when we die there are two more waiting to get their chance to go and spread the Gospel.”

Turn the other cheek

John Wesley, a mighty saint himself, recorded what would be a life changing encounter that he experienced when he crossed paths with a group of people who called themselves the Moravians.

For John, this encounter occurred early in his Christian life. John, was on board a ship when he crossed paths with these precious saints. He would see these men being disrespected and pushed around by other men on the ship. At each encounter, these group of people would do nothing to defend themselves; or as our Lord stated; they would turn the other cheek:

"But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." (Matthew 5:39 KJV)

True Mighty Men

John records that one night, the waves were horrifying and those on the ship were terrified. All of the “strong men” who pushed around and disrespected the precious saints aboard; were now shrieking in horror.

However, John noticed that in the midst of the chaos that precious group of saints were calm, reading, praying and singing Psalms!

The following morning, John would confront the “strong men”! Reminding them that in the darkest hour, they had a chance to witness what true mighty men looked like!

Those who turned the world upside down

Here we have a few of the “many stories” of a group who originally set out to set the world on fire for Christ!

A group of individuals who would be defined by Luke in the Acts of the Apostles as those who turned the world upside down!

As our Lord’s Word says:

"And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also" (Acts 17:6 KJV)

When the Moravians started, their mission was to follow Christ! Being described by the scriptures and leaving this world as men and women of whom this world was not worthy!!
