What would you do; if you woke up in the middle of the night and saw the enemy of the Cross of Christ standing in your bedroom? Would you be paralyzed with fear? Or, would you rely on the power of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to remove that enemy from your presence?

Well, a prominent preacher of the early twentieth century experienced such an encounter and it is his example that we will review today.

Smith Wigglesworth

The account is taken from the life of a Smith Wigglesworth. Smith was known for his ability to call souls back from the dead. A gift of the Holy Spirit given by our Lord and Savior:

"And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."
(Matthew 10:7-8 KJV)

Smith was well known and eventually he would draw the attention of the enemy of the Cross of Christ.

Late Night

The account details a late night experience, during which he and his wife fell under a sudden since of fear. A fear that terrified his wife so much that she could not open her eyes; a fear that Smith would address head on!

Smith would summon the strength to sit up and as he did he saw Satan standing in his bedroom! This preacher who had performed miraculous signs and wonders in the name of Jesus; would address the enemy head on. His words were something along the lines of:

“It is only you”!

Then he turned to his wife and told her:

“Go back to sleep; it is nothing of any significance.”

Just like that, a presence of peace swept the room and both Wigglesworths went back to sleep.

The POWER of CHRIST

Let’s return to our opening question; what would you do? We see what Smith Wigglesworth did:

“He looked Satan eye to eye and nose to nose and Satan blinked”

But, could you or do you? Though our encounter with the enemy may not be as intense; we still encounter him. As our precious brother Peter reminds us; he is as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour"
(1 Peter 5:8 KJV)

So, again I will ask, when you are confronted with the enemy; do you rely on the power of Christ? Remember our Christ said:

"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." (Matthew 28:18 KJV)

All power is His; and it is in His power that we get our strength. Smith Wigglesworth, understood this! He knew that the power that was inside of him; was greater than anything that the enemy had.

For Christ lived in him and Christ beats the enemy of the Cross every time!

If you are…

If you are reading this today and you do not know Jesus Christ; what are you waiting for? All power was given to Him in Heaven and in the Earth:

"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." (Matthew 28:18 KJV)

He is the Shepherd of our souls:

"For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls." (1 Peter 2:25 KJV)

He has the keys of death and of hell:

"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
(Revelation 1:18 KJV)

And, He is the only way to eternal life:

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:28 KJV)

If you have not confessed and believed in the Lord Jesus; confess and believe. For as our precious brother Paul states:

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
(Romans 10:9-10 KJV)

I will say it again, Christ beats the enemy of the Cross every time!
