Today we will look at the final words of one of those lost souls who ended up down the path that our Lord and Savior described as broad.

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat" (Matthew 7:13 KJV)

Arrived too late

This cautionary tale took place in the early twentieth century and was recorded by a well known preacher during that time. There was a women who was dying; she had no desire to repent for her life and no desire to ever know Christ.

Regardless, this well known preacher was sent for and he headed toward her as quickly as he could. But like most of these stories; he arrived too late.

What do you see?

The preacher reached the young woman right as her soul was leaving her body. As he realized that she was gone; he yelled as loud as he could; “What do you see?”

The response he received was one that he would remember the rest of his life! He recorded hearing a voice that seemed as if it had come from another world. A voice that responded with the words:

“Lost. Lost. Oh. So dark. So dark.”

– “The Fire that Once Was” by Frank “JJ” DI Pietro

The words of this lost soul would stick with this preacher for the rest of his life.

Cautionary Tale

Though we were provided a detailed description of the bottomless pit by the precious prophet Isaiah; many refuse to believe.

"Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it." (Isaiah 5:14 KJV)

Though we have been told that there exist a place of everlasting destruction; many choose to ignore.

"Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power"
(2 Thessalonians 1:9 KJV)

And even though we know that souls are tormented in the flame; we still have to have these cautionary tales.

"And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame." (Luke 16:24 KJV)

Believer..

When are we going to seek out the lost as our Lord and Savior did?

"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." (Luke 19:10 KJV)

When are we going to start turning the sinner from the error of his ways; like James instructed?

"Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins." (James 5:20 KJV)

When are we going to start turning those lost souls toward the path that our Lord and Savior described as narrow?

"Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matthew 7:14 KJV)

If you are..

If you are reading this as a believer in Jesus Christ; this is your job! This is what you are supposed to be doing. Just in case you need a reminder, here it is. Our Lord said:

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
(Matthew 28:19-20 KJV)

If you are reading this and you do not believe in our Christ; consider the story of this lost soul as a preview for the life that is waiting for you. Confess and believe in the Lord Jesus before you are the one being tormented in the flame.

As our precious brother Paul states:

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
(Romans 10:9-10 KJV)
