Paul, a bond servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ but this was not always his title. Paul once said of himself, that he thought to do all things contrary to Jesus of Nazareth.

"I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth." (Acts 26:9 KJV)

Not only did he think to do these things; he did them!

"Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them." (Acts 26:10 KJV)

Why?

You may be asking yourself, why would he spend his time this way. Why, did he care so much about those Christ followers? Scripture does not tell us that they were ever bothering him; so why did he derive so much pleasure in terrorizing and torturing them?

Think about it! What would make a man rip innocent men and women out of their homes? What kind of person would stand and watch as a sweet saint is stoned to death? Why would he do these things?

I’ll let him tell you.

"And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities." (Acts 26:11 KJV)

Exceedingly MAD

Paul says that he was exceedingly mad! He was blazing with anger at this Jesus of Nazareth. This servant, this man who wouldn’t stop talking about the kingdom of God. The one who said, He was going to lay down His life and then He would pick it up again.

"No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father." (John 10:18 KJV)

Where did all of Paul’s anger come from? Why was he exceedingly mad at the name of the Resurrected King?

Grace to help

The same question that remains open for Paul; is still open today. All over the world, individuals will get blazing mad at the name Jesus Christ. The idea of an all sufficient Savior will drive some to commit some of the most heinous and despicable acts that Paul himself once committed.

What is the difference? There is none! If you are a Saul, our Lord still has grace to help you! You can find mercy, grace and redemption in the name of Jesus Christ.

You see, what He did for Paul, and you also see what a horrible atrocious mess Paul once was! Paul, was once the worst of the worst, a horrible reprobate and top of the list for scum of the earth. And, at the name of Jesus Christ all of Paul’s sins were made white as snow.

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." (Isaiah 1:18 KJV)

If you are at the place where you do not know Christ as Lord; now is the time! Confess and believe in Him as our precious brother Paul states:

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9-10 KJV)
