The Cross of Jesus Christ, is the most hated and the most ridiculed message in the world. Why? Because, to claim the Cross of Christ means to claim the crucified Christ.
Crucified Christ
The crucified Christ is the Christ that Paul received his ministry from; a ministry that Paul would risk his life testifying for!
"For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." (1 Corinthians 2:2 KJV)
"But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God." (Acts 20:24 KJV)
Message for all of the world
“That ministry” has a message for all of the world! A message that so many would give their lives testifying for! The writer of Hebrews defines what many would and will suffer for the Cross of Christ:
"Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented" (Hebrews 11:35-37 KJV)
Let’s return to our opening statement.
The Most Hated and Most Ridiculed
The Cross of Christ is the greatest message that this world will ever know! So, why does it bring about so much hate? Why does the name “Jesus” cause so many peoples blood to boil? Why is His message so offensive?
You may be reading this and saying; “Wait a minute, so many “religions” call on the name of Jesus!”
If this is you, I will remind you, that they play on the name of Jesus. They claim “the christ” that is a “good man”, “a teacher”, “another prophet”; they never claim the atoning work of Jesus Christ! There is no mention of the Cross of Christ and they never claim “the offensive“, blood of the lamb!!
Again, I will ask you why is His message so offensive?
Could it be?
Could it be because, He gave His life as ransom?
"For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." (Mark 10:45 KJV)
Or, because His blood paid the price for sin?
"In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:14 KJV)
Maybe it is because He offers eternal life.
"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son." (1 John 5:11 KJV)
Honestly reader, I do not know the answer. I cannot find what is so offensive about the greatest message that this world has ever known.
A reminder
So, I will leave you with a reminder from one of the greatest preachers of the twentieth century:
“If you lay the Cross down, it points North, South, East and West. If you stand the Cross up, it points to a topless Heaven and a bottomless hell. It has a message for all of the world.”
