In the two thousand twenty first year of our Lord; I am blessed to own a copy of the letters of Praying John Hyde. As I began reading the letters from a man known today as the Apostle of Prayer. I cannot help but come to some realizations.

Let’s discuss.

LIVES CROSSED

As I read through the The Life and Letters of Praying Hyde; the opening begins with John mentioning the work that the Salvation Army was doing. From reading this, I came to the conclusion that the LIVES of two MIGHTY SAINTS had crossed. What do I mean?

I mean, that TWO men on the list of the world’s greatest saints WALKED this earth at the same time.

William Booth, formed an army, in East London. An army formed to fight against the evil that thought it ruled the day. His mission became so strong that it began to spread around the world.

So much so, that in a time where communication was slow; Praying John Hyde would mention William Booth’s work.

As we know of Praying John Hyde, he would leave this world remembered as one of our Lord’s mightiest prayer warriors! How do we know?

When John headed to India, his name was John Hyde. When he left this life in his early forties; he would forever be remembered as the Apostle of Prayer.

What’s the point?

If you have made it this far, you may be wondering what is the point! It is simple! These men had no way of KNOWING the mark that they would leave on this world. They did not set out to be well known, wealthy or loved by this world.

They set out following the command from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; a command we call The Great Commission.

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:19-20 KJV)

And, where did following our Lord’s instructions lead these men?

William Booth, would be beat in the streets every night for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Praying John Hyde would spend so much time on his knees in prayer; that his heart would shift in his chest! He would spend his last days on this earth in excruciating pain.

Again, you may…

Again, you may ask, what is the point?

The point is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ does not come with love from this world. The Crucified Christ does not offer riches in exchange for your soul. Our Christ does not deceive; He told us up front that: the world hated Him so the world would hate anyone who comes in His name.

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." (John 15:18-19 KJV)

Though the world hated William Booth and could care less about the Apostle of Prayer. Both men left their mark on this world; for the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Though the Salvation Army today is a far cry from William Booth’s Salvation Army; there IS a Salvation Army still around today.

And, for Praying John Hyde, all you have to do is type into Google; “Apostle of Prayer”.

Too GOOD for this WORLD

These men did not give anything in exchange for their souls, they had no want for this world; they knew that they were pilgrims here.

Each one of us must walk our own course and carry our own Cross. Though, it is not known if they ever met in this life it for sure that they shared the same mission!

Both men left their mark on this world and both men will forever be remembered as men who were too good for this world!!
