How often have you heard, seen or read the phrase: “Money is the root of all evil”? No matter how many times you have heard this phrase; it has been misquoted. Like many of our Lord’s scriptures; this verse has been stolen and changed.

Let’s turn to our Lord’s Word and see what our Lord defines as the root of all evil.

The Root…

The phrase, “money is the root of all evil”; is incorrect. It is the “love of money that is the root of all evil”. How do we know? Our Lord’s Apostle told us:

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:10 KJV)

Erred from the Faith

Our Lord’s Word says that some having coveting it; they have erred from the faith. And, having erred from the faith they have pierced themselves with many sorrows.

Have you ever wondered why rich people can never stop wanting for more and more. No matter how much they have, there will never be a dollar amount that can satisfy them?

Why?

Our precious brother Paul has the answer!

"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition." (1 Timothy 6:9 KJV)

The bond servant of God and the apostle of Jesus Christ said it; now I ask you to tell me where the lie is.

Or, is what Paul penned over two thousand years ago still true today!

What is the answer?

We now know that the “love of money is the root of all evil”. And, that the rich fall into temptations, snares, foolish and hurtful lusts, they drown themselves in destruction and perdition. So what is the answer?

One, flee these things!

"But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness." (1 Timothy 6:11 KJV)

Two, be content with food and raiment!

"And having food and raiment let us be therewith content." (1 Timothy 6:8 KJV)

Three, seek godliness with contentment!

"But godliness with contentment is great gain." (1 Timothy 6:6 KJV)

And, finally..

Finally, remember the reminder from our precious brother Paul.

"For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."
(1 Timothy 6:7 KJV)

You came into this world with NOTHING; and you will CARRY NOTHING out of IT!!

I have said it so many times and I will say it again; all of the answers to LIFE’s questions can be found in the Word of God!
