The Greatest Man Ever born: Defined for us by our Lord and Savior Jes..

Have you ever wondered who the greatest man ever born was? Of course, we do not count our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ but we do get our answer from Him.

None GREATER than he

The disciple Matthew records the answer to our opening question in his version of our Lord’s Gospel. Our Lord states:

"Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."
(Matthew 11:11 KJV)

John the Baptist, the greatest man born of woman, came neither drinking nor eating.

"For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil" (Matthew 11:18 KJV)

He wore camel’s hair and a leather girdle and he fed on locusts and wild honey.

"And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey."
(Matthew 3:4 KJV)

The precious prophet Isaiah, prophesied of his life long before he was born.

"For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." (Matthew 3:3 KJV)

And, he was born for one reason; to make the paths straight for our Lord and Savior.

Before he was born

Yes, John the Baptist was defined by the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords as the greatest man born of woman.

His birth was prophesied and many would rejoice at his birth.

"And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God." (Luke 1:14-16 KJV)

And, yes you read that correctly; scripture tells us that John was filled with the Holy Ghost before he was born.

Born for ONE REASON

The greatest man born of woman, was born for only one reason: to prepare the way for our Lord!

"And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:17 KJV)

And, prepare the way he did!

Time was up

When our Lord and Savior arrived; John the Baptist time was up! Remember, he was born for one reason and when that reason arrived; he had to go! Like all of the other prophets, the world would kill him! He would lose his head for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Before John was born, he was filled with the Holy Spirit, his ministry prepared the way for our Lord, Savior and Christ and our Christ would cost him his life!

Our example

John the Baptist was the greatest man born of woman and in his life we get our example. His birth was prophesied but his parents did not magnify him, use him as a prop or charge money for people to come see him.

He did not take his ministry to the world, he did not profit off of his gifts. He did not travel around the world or make money off of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Instead the greatest man ever born; lived in the wilderness! Paving the way for the Redeemer while repeating one message over and over and over! That message is what I will leave you with today:

"And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
(Matthew 3:2 KJV)
