"And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands." (John 19:2-3 KJV)
As the world puts Resurrection Sunday in the rear view and prepare to live the next year with no regard for our Savior; I cannot help but stay at the crucifixion of our Christ.
I cannot help but remember the mocking of Pilate and all of those who had no regard for Jesus of Nazareth!
King of the Jews
Those around derived great pleasure in the mocking of our Christ. They even ensured that His attire matched His title.
They adorned His head with a crown of thorns and placed around him a purple robe:
"Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!" (John 19:5 KJV)
Finding NO FAULT in Him they rushed Him to be crucified!
And, not missing any chance to degrade the “so called Christ”; they hung over His head a title reading:
"And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews." (John 19:19 KJV)
Judgment
As Pilate sat at a place called the Pavement and passed judgment on the Christ; he felt very comfortable!
"When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha." (John 19:13 KJV)
Yes, Pontius Pilate can brag in hell that he passed judgment on the King of Kings!
He can say that when He had the Lord of all Creation standing in front of him; he scourged Him!
But wait a minute!
Judgment Seat of Christ
Remember, we all have an eternal appointment; with this same Jesus Christ! We must all stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ to give in account for the deeds done in the body:
"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." (2 Corinthians 5:10 KJV)
At the Judgment Seat of Christ; Pilate must stand! He must stand and answer for his encounter with the King of Kings.
The best thing is, our Christ will not have to pull the record of Pilates life to unveil Pilate’s greatest sin!
And, we as witnesses will all get to see how “less than comfortable” Pontius Pilate will be as he stands before the very same Christ whom he helped crucify.
The only thing that Pilate will have to stand on will be, that the Judge of ALL of the Earth shall do right!
All Hail…
The world likes to paint our Christ as this whimpering being who can be pushed around. Pilate played a great role in perpetuating that narrative.
All it earned Pilate was a better place in hell and the weight of the world’s greatest sin!
“All hail the King of the Jews”, sorry they got it wrong!
It’s “All hail the King of Kings and the Lords of Lords“.
It is “Yes, Lord and all KNEES bowing and every tongue confessing that this same Jesus Christ that Pilate helped crucify; is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
