Do you remember, King Saul? The king who ended up going mad then killing himself?

Let us discuss!

King Saul

King Saul was by no accounts a man after God’s heart.

But, Saul was the king that the people wanted. So, our God made Saul a King.

Not only did our God make Saul a King. He gave him one of the world’s greatest prophet’s for a confidant.

Saul started out like most men and women of today; listening, trusting and obeying God.

And, like most men and women of today; Saul would quickly fall!

Forgotten..

It wasn’t long before King Saul had forgotten where the One True God had brought him from.

Even with the precious prophet Samuel around, King Saul still could not get it right!

Saul would let his envy for David drive him mad! So much so, that when the precious prophet Samuel passed from this life.

King Saul would seek a soothsayer to fetch Samuel’s soul from his well earned place of rest!

"Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel. And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul." (1 Samuel 28:11-12 KJV)

Desperate state…

Let us ensure that we understand the state of which King Saul is now in.

He was once a “select” of our God, given a prophet to help guide him and he still messed up!

So much so, that the One True God would no longer hear a word from Saul.

No wonder he ended up in such a desperate state!

A desperate state that led him to seek a soothsayer to disturb Samuel from his rest.

"And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do." (1 Samuel 28:15 KJV)

Dead tomorrow

The precious prophet Samuel would bring King Saul a word that he was not prepared to hear.

"Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the Lord, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the Lord done this thing unto thee this day. Moreover the Lord will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the Lord also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines."
(1 Samuel 28:18-19 KJV)

Before returning to his peaceful place of rest; the precious prophet told King Saul that tomorrow him and his sons would be dead!

How would he die?

Killed himself

How would the King die?

This man who was once a “select” of the One True God; would kill himself!

The Scripture says that he would fall upon a sword.

"Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it." (1 Samuel 31:4 KJV)

the LESSONS

I’ll say it again! This is a man who was once a “select” of the Most High God. He was given the highest title among men and a prophet!

And, he still could not get this life right! He would go mad then take his own life!
