I am here today to remind you of what happens when we have the Lord right in front of us; and we let Him slip through our hands!
..this “JUST” person…
Remember, the story of Pontius Pilate! The man who once had an innocent Christ standing before him.
Yes, Pilate knew that the Christ was innocent but fearing the crowd, his reputation, title and lively hood; he chose the cowards way out.
"Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified." (Matthew 27:22 KJV)
He would turn the Christ over while attempting to wash his hands of the matter:
"When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it." (Matthew 27:24 KJV)
Turning the Christ over and seemingly going on with his life.
"When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him." (John 19:6 KJV)
what I have written
But, not before having the eternal title placed on the Christ’s Cross:
"And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews." (John 19:19 KJV)
And, stating that he wrote what he wrote!
"Pilate answered, What I have written I have written." (John 19:22 KJV)
O, Pontius Pilate; what an eternal slip!
FEAR
What an example of doing nothing!
Do not believe this lying world; Pilate did not try to save the Christ! Pilate wanted no parts in helping the King of Kings and the Lords of Lords. For fear of what the world would do to him.
He feared what “the world” would do to him. “The world” whose builder and maker was standing right in front of him!
What a hand washing coward!
And, what an example of what happens when the things of this world are more important than the things of God!
Torment
Though his actions earned him a “good seat” in hell; he is still in hell. A wise preacher once said that memory is the worm of hell.
For well of two thousand years, Pilate has been tormented by that day. Every second in hell, he wishes he could return to that moment and do something different.
One cannot begin to imagine the hell of the man who once passed judgment on the Eternal Judge.
So what is the lesson here!
The Lord Jesus Christ
This world has seen many who were just like Pilate! Many who have had the Christ right in their grasps and let Him go!
Many who are in that place of eternal torment with Pontius Pilate crying out for one more chance.
Do not let this be you!
You have a chance to make it right!
Do not let the Christ slip through your hands!
Repent, confess and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!
